FAQs

For Families

  • Our IBCLCs and interns will welcome you, ask you to sign a consent form and provide some basic information about you and your baby, and help you to find a comfortable place to feed your baby. We have highly sensitive medical scales at all groups as most parents like to weigh their baby before and after a feeding to determine the baby’s intake of milk. We will spend time with each parent/baby to hear their concerns and offer support and information. If desired, we will offer hands-on help with latch and position etc. The amount of time we can spend with each parent/baby depends on the size of the group and the concerns raised. Attending a group does not replace a one-on-one visit with an IBCLC, but can absolutely be appropriate for many concerns and also support the work you are already doing with another IBCLC.

  • It is outside of the scope of practice for IBCLCs to provide medical diagnoses. We can provide a brief oral exam to assess your baby’s function and offer feedback. We make referrals to our local expert physicians/dentists who can make a diagnosis and offer medical advice.

  • Absolutely! Many parents come for the community connection and getting out of the house. There is always lots to learn from our IBCLCs and the other parents about what lies ahead for your baby’s next stage. And many parents report feeling wonderful about being able to offer support to a struggling parent with a younger baby than their own.

  • Please use the contact us by email prior to the group to ask if a partner can attend. We keep the groups small and depending on location the space may not accommodate more than the allotted number of parent/ baby pairs.

  • Please email lactationmentoring@gmail.com to let us know if you are not able to attend the group you have signed up for. We can issue a refund or in some cases roll over the sign up to the following week. We appreciate sick parents and babies not attending as it protects other group participants and their young babies.

  • Please use the Contact Us form to reach out to LLC to discuss opportunities for discounted rates for attending the support group. LLC aims to offer support for all families.

  • Pillows are provided at the support groups. If you have a questions regarding pumping, yes please bring your pump and all pumping parts with you to the group.

  • If you are supplementing with formula or expressed breastmilk, please bring a bottle with you to the group.
